Born in 1911 in Rathenow, the aquarellist Christine Kremkau is a passionate gardener, in her own garden as well as in her paintings.

The fruits of her home garden are always harvested by her the moment she steps in front of her easel with her aquarelles and brushes. Like no other aquarellist in the domain of floral-painting, she has acquired the adroitness of reducing the motifs of her portrayals in order to heighten their colour-effectiveness to a maximum.

Especially in aquarelle painting, where often nuance and subtle detail are decisive, this is the essential esthetical characteristic, which distinguishes her from all her imitators and followers.

Inspired by the great North German expressionist Emil Nolde, Christine Kremkau began to involve herself with painting in 1973. After years of artistic maturation under the supervision of the famous English aquarellist Matt Bruce (1984) and lengthly visits to Iran and France, she completed her studies at the academy of Fine Arts in Steffeln in 1988. Numerous exhibitions since the seventies and the Publication of her own catalogue "Floweraquarelles" document her status as one of the most influential contemporary aquarelle painters.
