Since the epoch of the Renaissance, Realism has become a recurring movement in art, which because of its variety, ranks above different styles and style periods.

The painter Edward Hopper played a central role in American Realism. Born on July 22nd, 1882 in Nyack, New York, he created motifs of people in small towns and landscapes, usually placed in motionless surroundings, filled with quietness and melancholy. This quiet atmosphere was the main stylistic device of his paintings, which ,with their distant coolness and strength, had become a forerunner of Photorealism.

When Hopper died on May 15th, 1967 in New York, no one imagined that he had established an almost timeless lifetime achievement, which gained more and more attention the 1970īs onwards.
