"Lampion, lampion...sun, moon and stars." - is the text of the famous German children-rhyme, which aptly describes the fantastic world many children experience, and teddy bears are naturally part of it. Since the beginning of this century, one can scarcely imagine German living- and children's-rooms without this popular toy for young and old. The term Teddy or teddy bear entered the German language in 1907, yet originates from the English language and refers to the former American president Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt. Roosevelt was a passionate hunter who especially enjoyed stalking bears. A figure of a bear was developed in his honour and received the nickname "Teddy". Following tertiary studies in Cologne, the Danish artist Margrethe Hansen born in Jütland in 1944, returned to her native country a few years ago where she completely devoted herself to painting. Her works are primarily laid out in pastel- chalks, colour pencils and aquarelles. Loving attention to detail, a gift of accurate observation and a natural amiability distinguish her paintings. Standing out of the crowd of anonymous licensed products for children that have flooded the wholesale markets in the last few years, her motives contain exactly the kind of charm and warmth that is so important with pictures for children and all those who have remained young.
