Photo Print: Small present, but a fortune to them ... by Yvette Depaepe
Behind this photo is hidden a very particular story which had a huge impact on me. During my volonteership in Nepal, I was spending a few days in a little resort in the mountains of Dhading with two friends also volonteers. One only can reach these small mountain communities by jeep. No electricity, no internet, no nothing, sleeping in tents just surrounded by silence and some sounds from the far away small villages. The first evening, all the habitants of a village situated about 3km from the resort came to visit us. They were about 30 people, musicians, families, children and elderly. It was such a great experience, they were playing their wonderful Nepal instruments, everybody was dancing and making fun in complete darkness with only candle light and moonlight. At the end of their performance, we gave them 500 nepali roepies (about 5 euro or 7 US dollars). On this image, you can see the kids and musicians counting the treasure before it goes in the precious metal box. A real fortune to them ...
